10 Questions with Kirsten Pringle
What do you do for your job?
I am a project manager with the Delta group. I work on flood control and environmental restoration projects throughout the Delta. I support our clients and teams with coordination, managing project budgets and schedules, obtaining and complying with environmental permits, and anything else that is needed to keep our projects moving forward.
How did you get into engineering?
I am not an engineer, but I have worked for engineering firms for 7+ years. My background is in environmental science. I like working with engineers because they are problem solvers and combine creativity with math and science.
What is the best part of your job?
I love getting to know more about the places and people in the Delta. Field days are my favorite because the Delta is such a beautiful place; you never know what you are going to see. I have a lot of respect for the multi-generational relationship people in the Delta have with the land.
What skill would you like to master?
Watercolors. I’ve been painting off and on for many years. I like to improve my skills and master nature illustration.
What do you wish you knew more about?
Birds. I see so much bird life in the Delta. I wish I could identify birds when I saw them.
What’s the best way to start the day?
Long walk with my dog, Charlie, drinking coffee.
What’s something you’ve been meaning to try, but just haven’t gotten around to yet?
I would like to write a screenplay. I love watching horror movies. I always thought the Delta would be a great location for a horror movie plot.
Where is the most relaxing place you’ve ever been?
Manzanita Lake in Lassen National Park at sunset. It’s the epitome of idyllic.
Where would you spend all your time if you could?
Hanging out in meadows in the high Sierras.
What is the most impressive thing you know how to do?
I’m not very fast, but I can run very far. Last year I ran my first 50-mile race in Moab. I hope to run a 100-mile race someday.
