10 Questions with Erin Vickers-Huff

What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you?
I learned early on that life can change in a moment, which informs my daily decision to find the good in every day, in every person, and in every situation.

Where is the most relaxing place you’ve ever been?
Any time at the ocean is the most relaxing place for me, but specifically in and around La Selva Beach, California.

What do you hope never changes?
That my house and kitchen is the gathering place for my unique, extended family. I am happiest in my kitchen listening to the sound of people sharing a meal, drinking wine, and laughing.

What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years?
Seeing what my kids choose to do with their lives, and traveling across the country with my boyfriend, with our dirt bikes in the bed of the truck, and pulling a trailer!

What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?
Make biscuits with my grandmother’s pastry cutter and biscuit cutter.

What skill would you like to master?
Speaking fluent French.

What hobby would you get into if time and money were not an issue?
Raising goats on a farm in Petaluma and producing artisan goat cheese.

What is the best part of your job?
Building trust with people so I am able to support team members in a meaningful way. My first boss used to say that I knew what he needed before he did. I still take a lot of pride in that statement and that concept is a driving force for me every day.

How did you get into engineering?
In high school I enrolled in ROP to learn office skills (that meant typing on an electric typewriter, taking shorthand, and using computer punch cards!). At 18, I began an entry level job at Blue Diamond Almond Growers, and became the Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. I have been in administrative work ever since.

What do you do for your job?
I am an Administrative Assistant at MBK Engineers, a job that encompasses a broad variety of responsibilities. Simply put, I do whatever I can to help!
