10 Questions with Andrew Reece

What is special about the place you grew up?
I grew up in a small town right above the snow line and loved it. Snowmobiling, skiing, and snowboarding in the winter; fishing and camping in the summer. Beautiful area to grow up, lots to do and explore.

If you suddenly became a master at woodworking, what would you make?
I think I would like to make furniture or nice cabinetry.

What’s the best thing that happened to you last week?
Hanging out with my daughter playing soccer and baseball in the back yard.

What’s something you’ve been meaning to try, but just haven’t gotten around to yet?
I’m kind of embarrassed about this, but I have never traveled to another country. I would love to go somewhere tropical.

What is something that a ton of people are obsessed with that you just don’t get the point of?
The metaverse, they make a lot of movies that go down this road and they all end bad.

What would be your first question after waking up from being cryogenically frozen for 100 years?
Can I get a cup of coffee please?

What takes up too much of your time?
Yardwork, I spend way too much time doing this. My wife and daughter make fun of me quite often insinuating that I am always mowing.

What is the best part of your job?
I get a good mix of office time and field time. I love having the mix of both, and working with great people – both in the office and the field.

How did you get into engineering?
I saw the drafting display for our high school in 8th grade and said, “I want to do that.” I took hand drafting and Autocad classes in high school, and by the time I graduated I decided I wanted to get into engineering.

What do you do for your job?
I mostly work doing CAD drafting and land surveying with some design work.
