If you suddenly became a master at woodworking, what would you make?
A new coffee table for our living room because we’ve never been able to find one that we like.
What’s something you’ve been meaning to try, but just haven’t gotten around to yet?
I would like to learn to play a musical instrument.
What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years?
Accomplishing my most important travel goals. I plan to see Japan, New Zealand, Patagonia, and the Aurora Borealis in the next 10 years.
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Wait tables in a restaurant.
What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?
I love reading the Sacramento Bee in hard copy every morning.
What job would you be terrible at?
I would be a terrible surgeon because I’m very squeamish.
What hobby would you get into if time and money were not an issue?
Race car driving and helicopter piloting (why not both if time and money were not an issue?)
What is the best part of your job?
I find meaning in protecting people and property from flooding, and in river stewardship.
How did you get into engineering?
Initially, it was my interest in hydrology that led me to water resources engineering.
What do you do for your job?
I’m a Project Manager in the Flood Management group.
