10 Questions with Olivia Alexander

What is special about the place you grew up?
I grew up in a small Northern Idaho university town. The community was very tight-knit and had a major focus on the arts, so I grew up surrounded by good music and good people.

If you suddenly became a master at woodworking, what would you make?
I’ve recently been searching for an interesting bookcase. So, I would make one myself! I like unique home goods but they’re hard to come by.

What do you wish you knew more about?
Global politics

What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?
I’m obsessed with the Enneagram personality test. There’s a good chance you’ve already heard me talk about it, but I am always trying to convince people to take the test or guess what type they are.

What’s the best way to start the day?
Waking up with the sun and going on a walk to get coffee from Pachamama and a breakfast sandwich from Ginger Elizabeth. If you haven’t tried, you must!

What job would you be terrible at?
UFC referee

What hobby would you get into if time and money were not an issue?
Cooking if I had more time, and interior decorating if I had more money (and rooms in my house).

What is the best part of your job?
I love being able to use the creative side of my brain as well as the analytical. I enjoy coming up with new products to present data in a way that makes sense to the client. Every day is something different!

How did you get into engineering?
I applied to college undeclared, but with the idea that I would go into an environmental science related field. After the first year or so, I decided civil/environmental engineering was the best path to take for me to make an impact in my community.

What do you do for your job?
I’m on the Hydrology and Hydraulics team, working mostly on reservoir operations projects.
