10 Questions with Jacquie Jaggers

What do you do for your job?
I am the Director of Finance which means that I oversee all processes that integrate with HR, payroll, billing and accounts payable, project and financial reporting, trends, and other types of analysis in order to support the ongoing success of employees, management teams, and the firm as a whole.

How did you get into engineering?
I majored in fine art and minored in music (piano and harp), but I took accounting as a second major, and had an affinity for the order and logic of it. Work is more consistent in accounting (lol), and after working with entrepreneurs (including my husband) early on, I found I enjoyed using those principles and systems to support businesses.

What is the best part of your job?
The opportunity to bring informed creative solutions to the people with whom and for whom I work to achieve their objectives and contribute to their success!

What fictional place would you most like to visit?
I would want to visit Entwood forest and talk with the Ents from Lord of the Rings, but that is a tie with vacationing in Rivendell itself, also from Lord of the Rings.

What skill would you like to master?
I always wanted to learn to surf. I only tried once, but man would it be fun to be capable of catching and riding a decent sized wave!

What job would you be terrible at?
Serving – everyone’s orders would always be wrong, I am sure of it. And I might have a high level of temptation to dump drinks on certain types of customers 😉

What’s the best way to start the day?
Watching the glory of the sunrise, and reflecting upon life with gratitude and forward thinking, with a nice cup of excellent, dark roast coffee.

What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?
Read a book. I listen to audible books, and I'll read ebooks, but to me there is no substitute for the written page. Holding a book in my hand and making notations in the margins as I run across ideas, quotes, etc., that I want to remember. Good books, in that way, become well-worn friends in my ever-growing library.

What is something that a ton of people are obsessed with that you just don’t get the point of?
A LOT of comedy movies and TV shows that seem to be targeted toward 10 to 12-year-old mentalities.

Where is the most relaxing place you’ve ever been?
The Island of Kauai. So peaceful, simple, quiet (no night life) just nature, water, and aloha.
